The Sonoff Mini R2 is a compact Wi-Fi smart switch designed to retrofit existing light switches and power outlets, enabling remote control and automation via an app or voice commands. It is the reinforced second-generation model, with enhanced safety features and improved performance over its predecessor.
Key Features:
- Connectivity: The device uses 2.4GHz Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11 b/g/n) for wireless connection to your home network, requiring no separate hub for the Wi-Fi version. A separate Zigbee 3.0 version (Sonoff ZBMINIR2) is also available which requires a compatible Zigbee hub.
- Safety Enhancements: The R2 model features an internal antenna to prevent electric shock hazards, unlike the first version. It has distinct gray S1/S2 interfaces to avoid connection with live current and meets 2KV surge testing standards, surpassing the 1KV CE standard requirement.
- Compact Size: With dimensions of approximately 42.6 x 42.6 x 20 mm (for the Wi-Fi version), its small size allows it to fit into most standard EU and US switch boxes, even tight ones, making it ideal for discreet installation behind existing switches.
- Control Methods: Users can control connected appliances via the eWeLink app on their smartphone, through voice commands with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, or using the original physical wall switch (rocker, push-button, or SPDT switches).
- Automation & Scheduling: The eWeLink app allows users to set schedules, timers, and smart scenes to automate their devices.
- DIY Mode: The switch supports a "DIY Mode" (for the Wi-Fi version) which allows integration with third-party, local control systems like Home Assistant via a LAN connection, without relying on the cloud.
- Power Rating: It supports an input/output of AC 100-240V, 50/60Hz, with a maximum load of 10A.
- External Switch Modes: It offers three triggering modes for external switches: Pulse Mode (for push-button switches), Edge Mode (for SPDT switches), and Following Mode (to synchronize the light state with a traditional wall switch).
